After Hours: B.Y.S. Trio (Live)

Live music performance
B.Y.S. Trio live at the Vorres Museum Garden
A dialogical performance of music, improvisation, and visual space
(Vorres Museum Garden)
On Friday, April 25, 2025, at 20:30, as part of the Vorres Museum’s After Hours series, B.Y.S. Trio presents a unique dialogical performance titled “Between Sound and Silence”, held in the Garden of the Vorres Museum.
In this musical performance, sound meets image, and improvisation becomes the vehicle for a profound dialogue with contemporary art and the folk memory embodied by the Museum’s space.
The three musicians trace the path of sound from its folk roots to its urban expressions, from collective pulse to individual creation, and from mere listening to the awakening of memory. A key example of this sonic transition is the improvisation “Grevena Appalachians”, from the trio’s album It’s About Spirituality. The piece reveals a musical identity that redefines tradition while simultaneously being shaped by it in the present.
The music of B.Y.S. Trio moves between folk and urban, tangible and intangible, following a path rich in suggestion and spirituality. Just as Ornette Coleman was inspired by a painting to compose the iconic piece Lonely Woman (The Shape of Jazz to Come, 1959), here too the visual experience of the space becomes a catalyst for the creation of sound, with silence serving as a foundational point of reference.
The trio’s sound is marked by density and clarity, lyricism and unrestrained freedom. It is sculpted through the dynamic of dialogue in improvisation and a shared desire for meaningful listening.

Bio
B.Y.S. Trio (Chrysostomos Boukalas, Konstantinos Giaxoglou, Nikos Sidirokastritis)
B.Y.S. Trio (Chrysostomos Boukalas – double bass, Konstantinos Giaxoglou – piano & electronics, Nikos Sidirokastritis – drums) was formed in 2017. Its initial aim was to delve into the work and spiritual legacy of legendary bassist Charlie Haden. At the same time, the trio focused on creating new sonic narratives, drawing inspiration from free improvisation and the lyricism of contemporary jazz.
They have performed at significant venues and festivals including Half Note Jazz Club, Jazzet Music Hall, Beton7, Zp87, Alogókrito, Zoo (Chalandri), A49 (Kalamata), as well as at Jazz in the Park (2018) and Syros Jazz Festival (2019).
In 2022, they released the live tribute album It’s About Spirituality – A Tribute to Charlie Haden. Recently, the trio presented a new project in collaboration with vocalist Anna Linardou, exploring the coexistence of the human voice with the classical piano trio form.
The work of B.Y.S. Trio stands out for its spirituality, social awareness, deep emotional expression, and a sound that bridges the rich tradition of jazz with avant-garde trends.
